NEXT Receives Pacific Coast Business Times' 2023 Innovation Award

NEXT recognized for improving commercial buildings' environmental impact through transparent, solar windows

SANTA BARBARA, CA — March 24, 2023 — NEXT Energy Technologies, Inc. (NEXT), makers of a proprietary transparent photovoltaic (PV) coating that transforms commercial windows into energy-producing solar panels, has received the Corporate Innovator Award in the Environment Category from the Pacific Coast Business Times (PCBT). PCBT presented the award to NEXT Energy during its annual Central Coast Innovation Awards ceremony on March 23.

The Central Coast Innovation Awards ceremony, organized by PCBT in collaboration with the California NanoSystems Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, celebrates the best emerging technology in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. NEXT was honored with the Corporate Innovator Award for its contributions to making commercial buildings more environmentally sustainable.

"We're honored to receive this recognition from the Pacific Coast Business Times," said Daniel Emmett, CEO and co-founder of NEXT Energy Technologies. "Our goal is to help commercial buildings achieve net-zero energy and reduce their carbon footprint. We're working with companies like Patagonia to demonstrate how this technology can benefit not just commercial buildings and their owners, but the world entirely. We’d like to thank the Pacific Coast Business Times, the California NanoSystems Institute at the University of California, Patagonia, the California Energy Commission, and the NEXT team for their hard work leading to a common goal of creating a more sustainable world.”

A spinout of UCSB, NEXT developed a proprietary transparent photovoltaic (PV) coating that transforms commercial windows into energy-generating windows. NEXT recently installed 22 energy-generating windows on Patagonia’s corporate headquarters which deliver dedicated power for device charging while employees use the community spaces.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition, but there is more work to be done,” said Corey Hoven, CTO and co-founder of NEXT Energy Technologies. “Many U.S. cities and local jurisdictions have adopted building energy efficiency standards that support climate and clean energy goals. To support these efforts and meet other international energy standards, NEXT will continue working to scale-up and commercialize our innovative, solar power-generating windows.”
